CNN —Roberto Cavalli, the Italian fashion designer who made his mark on the fashion world with distinctive, glamorous animal prints, has died at the age of 83. Roberto Cavalli walks the runway after a fashion show showcasing his label's designs in Budva, Montenegro on June 10, 2013. Along with animal prints and intarsia leather, denim became a core element of his signature style, leading to the establishment of a more youthful offshoot brand, Just Cavalli, in 1998. Flanked by models in quintessential Cavalli florals and animal prints, Roberto Cavalli takes his bow after his label's Spring-Summer 2015 menswear show at Milan Fashion Week on June 24, 2014. “Dear Roberto, you may not be physically here with us anymore but I know I will feel your spirit with me always.

Do designers really expect us to wear those outlandish looks they show on the runway? I look at the images and can’t imagine anyone walking down a street in most of those clothes, no matter where they lived. — Mary, Auckland, New ZealandThis is one of those questions I have been asked pretty much every season since I started covering the runway shows. Another one is about why models never smile, which I answered last season, and I get it, I really do. (As does Mr. Owens himself, who told me backstage he had figured out a way to produce and sell the ropy looks.)

CNN —Victoria Beckham’s Paris Fashion Week show was disrupted by animal rights activists as they joined her models on the catwalk to protest her brand’s use of animal products such as leather. Protesters in white vests reading “turn your back on animal skins” and “animals aren’t fabric” walked along models on the runway on Friday, holding signs reading “Viva vegan leather,” before being escorted away by security. Animal rights group Peta said that although Beckham’s brand has banned the use of fur and exotic skins in its collections, it still uses leather, including calfskin. “No garment or accessory is worth violently slaughtering and skinning a sensitive and intelligent animal,” PETA Vice President for Europe Mimi Bekhechi said in a statement. Her autumn/winter 2024 collection showcased styles including sheer dresses, garments with sculpted curved hems and necklines, and boxy blazers.

Whichever team takes home the Vince Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl LVIII, the San Francisco 49ers or the Kansas City Chiefs, there is already one indubitable winner. Not Taylor Swift, whose interest in football has attracted almost as many conspiracy theorists as fans, or even the N.F.L. itself, which is trying to figure out how to hang onto its sudden influx of Taylor-related female fans, but rather another player’s significant other: Kristin Juszczyk. On Sunday, as her husband takes the field, Ms. Juszczyk, 29, will be in the stands, modeling one of her creations to an estimated 200 million viewers. And Ms. Juszczyk didn’t even have to buy a $7 million 30-second ad spot to get it.

Reuters photographers were on the ground to capture it all as it unfolded - and much more. 649 photographers125 countries1.3 million photosOn Oct. 7, Hamas rampaged through southern Israel, killing around 1,200 people and taking about 240 hostages, according to Israeli tallies. While this war and other stories took the spotlight off Ukraine, the conflict raged on in the country’s east. Amid the death and despair that marked 2023, humans still found ways to remember and to celebrate - and Reuters photographers looked for those stories, too. ‘It’s almost seen as a hack’These tactics are all part of the industry’s hope to neutralize the booming counterfeit market, with some estimates asserting that fake fashion and luxury items account for 60% or more of the multi-trillion-dollar trade in fake goods. Sympathy for brands “can be hard for consumers in general, particularly those who are deeply steeped in TikTok culture,” Scafidi said. According to Business of Fashion, the average price for a women’s designer handbag in the US spiked 27% from 2019 to 2022. Last year saw record-breaking profits for the luxury sector, with around 95% of brands seeing growth, according to an estimate by consulting firm Bain & Company. “Right now, vintage is on trend, and we actually see new replicas of vintage items — items that were made in the ’80s or ’90s,” Thompson said.

LONDON, Sept 15 (Reuters) - Paul Costelloe opened London Fashion Week on Friday, with the Irish designer saying he was "bringing back a bit of romance" to the catwalks with feminine dresses and soft, fluid looks. In recent years, the brand has introduced its sandals made with non-animal materials and a dizzying array of styles and colors. But the shoes’ appeal reaches across generations, making them as popular with millennials as they are with the boomer generation. Potential Risks: The trick of taking tradition publicBirkenstock’s statement said the company would face a number of risks in going public. Among them are the dangers posed by counterfeit products, it said, along with the “intense competition” from established companies and newcomers in the shoe market. “The transition from a historically family-owned German company to a publicly held company listed on a U.S. stock exchange may negatively impact our reputation,” the statement said.

Like many Broadway musicals, “Here Lies Love” involves a lot of dancing. Imelda Marcos — wife of Ferdinand Marcos, the longtime president of the Philippines — was fond of discothèques. Wheeled platforms and runways are regularly rearranged around the floor area, displacing audience members. The rest of the audience is seated, above the dance floor and back into the depths of the mezzanine. to join the standing folks in a simple line dance, picking up the moves from cast members spread throughout the theater on more platforms and catwalks.

LOW-KEY LUXURY At the fall fashion shows, many designers proposed quiet, classic clothes rife with sophistication. From left: fall looks from Fendi, the Row and Loro Piana. This season put an end to that. Perhaps inspired by political and economic uncertainty, or maybe by the fact that women exist in the tangible world again, not just behind filtered screens, brands including Saint Laurent, the Row, Bottega Veneta and Fendi turned out exquisitely wearable, sometimes understated clothes. The shift in tone resonated with guests, some of whom are cautiously optimistic it might last beyond this crucial season for the brand.
[1/5] Supporters of All Progressives Congress (APC) wear traditional attire with APC branding during a campaign rally in Abuja, Nigeria, February 11, 2023. Ahead of the Feb. 25 vote, political rallies and campaign events have become catwalks for colourful printed fabrics twisted into elaborate dresses, tunics and headscarves. He wore an LP-emblazoned, green, red and white version of a traditional hat and held a wooden walking stick that is often used as an accessory among Hausa men. "You can see the stick here which means I am a full Lagosian by virtue of this campaign in Lagos," said Ahanotu. "This is our official regalia for APC presidential campaign council," she explained.
TRYING TO SPOT casual clothes at the recent menswear shows was a bit like playing “Where’s Waldo?” Sober, dressier items so outnumbered once-dominant streetwear staples on the catwalks that if you spied a hoodie, jeans or flashy sneakers, you felt like you’d won a game. This season belonged to investment pieces: sharp-shouldered suits, chunky polished-leather shoes, heirloom-quality coats. Guys bored of schlubby sweats and wary of splashing out money on overly loud, quick-to-date clothes when the cost of living is wincingly high. Less clear: How they will fare in the real world, when they hang off average-size mortals, not long-limbed models. One stylist friend announced, half-seriously, that he feared these coats would make his shorter clients look like kids who’d raided their dads’ closets.

YOUR DAD most likely wore the same model of underwear every day, be it tighty-whities or billowy boxers. One style, one brand, quite possibly even one color, day after day. But what if you wanted to experiment with underwear that’s not so obviously “your type”? Thanks to an influx of innovative startups in the past decade, there has never been as much scope for underwear infidelity. On the 2022 catwalks of Dior and Louis Vuitton, among others, the waistbands of silky boxers peeked above models’ trousers.
